Neil Druckmann, co-president of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s game studio Naughty Dog, tweeted earlier, congratulating that his own game “The Last of Us: Part II” has been awarded by 261 media units the title of the game of the year, surpassing the 260 awards in “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” and becoming the game with the most titles of the year in game history. The most astonishing thing is that there are still awards being awarded, so this number is expected to continue increasing.
Since “The Last of Us: Part II” was launched in the middle of last year, although it has experienced trailer fraud, produced a unpopular plot and the game director agued with fans, it still got numerous award at the end of the year.

Our agency reported on January 7 that the blog “Game of the Year Picks”, which focuses on statistics of game awards in various countries, listed “The Last of Us” with a total of 137 annual game titles. After 20 days, this game with mixed reputation in the minds of players once again won the drag racing. It officially broke through the “260 barriers” maintained by “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” in 2015 and came to 261 award-winning titles in one fell swoop.
Among these 261 annual game titles, 170 were voted by professional media critics and 91 were chosen by player readers.
Neil Druckmann also tweeted: “Oh my god, it seems like a miracle to be able to launch a game of this scale. But being able to resonate with so many people is beyond our craziest expectations. We are very grateful for that.”
In 2015, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” won the annual game title from 260 media units. The second place was 62 from “Legend of Dust 4” and the third was 32 from “The Curse of Blood”. As for 2020, “The Last of Us Two” won the most 261 companies in history, the second was “Hades” with 54 and the third was “War Ghosts on Horse” with 50.
According to the information provided by the blog, from 2003 to 2020 with its own statistics, there are a total of six games with more than 200 titles of the game of the year. From high to low, they are: “The Last of Us Two” ( 2020, 261 companies), “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” (2015, 260 companies), “The Last of Us” (2013, 254 companies), “The Elder Scrolls V: Unbounded Skyrim” (2011, 227 companies), “Sal Legend of Da: Breath of the Wild” (2017, 224 companies) and “God of War” (2018, 209 companies).
