CD Projekt RED has reaffirmed its commitment to launching Cyberpunk 2077 next month.
In a post on Twitter, the company’s global community lead Marcin Momot highlighted the fact that the game’s Twitter banner features the previously-announced December 10 release date following rumours that the eagerly-anticipated sci-fi RPG was being delayed once again.
This was due to the fact that the aforementioned release date was removed from the Cyberpunk 2077 official Twitter account’s bio, which caused some to speculate it’s being pushed back again.
The game has been delayed a number of times already. The RPG was initially set to release in April, but was delayed at the start of 2020 until September. By June, CD Projekt had taken the decision to once again push the title back until November 19, saying that Cyberpunk 2077, um, wouldn’t be delayed again.
Finally, last month the title was pushed back by three weeks until December 10, seemingly due to issues with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
Last year, CD Projekt said that Cyberpunk 2077 would be completed without “mandatory” crunch – i.e. long periods of overtime – but in January admitted that developers would have to put in these extra hours to finish the game. In September, the studio mandated six-day workweeks to this end, but said that staff would be “well compensated” for this time.
Joint CEO Adam Kicinski came under fire for downplaying the long hours some employees were working to investors, saying that crunch “is not that bad.” The following day, he apologised for his remarks to staff.
