Scorn always looked intriguing, but we can now see for sure what type of game it is.
Scorn is the horror first-person game form Ebb Software. The game has been in development for a while following a successful Kickstarter campaign, but remerged earlier this year when it was officially announced for Xbox Series X/S.
Since then, however, things have been very quiet. The game does not yet have a release date, for instance. But you won’t have to wait too much longer to see it in action. The gameplay video was first posted by Gamespot, and it shows 13 minutes of footage running on Xbox Series X.
The H.R. Giger inspirations are immediately noticeable, and the gameplay shows how they manifest in more than just environment design. The character’s weapon, for instance, is made out of bones and has fleshy insides where the bullets go. Every object appears to be a living thing, with tissue and moving insides.
It’s quite the marriage of function and grotesque form, and it really does make the world feel like nothing you’ve seen before in a sci-fi game or film.
Scorn looks to be a slower-paced, adventure game with a bit of shooting, so don’t expect some Doom-level of aggression. Some of the things you do can be repulsive to some, so don’t watch the video as you’re having lunch.
Scorn is due for release in 2021 on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
